Our Story

{fresh} decor is a designer curated boutique featuring custom upholstery, exclusively ours
and semi custom bedding, as well as case goods and decor.

"I moved to SC in 2012 and started rebuilding my business here (had started it in Salt Lake City). Most of my clients, at that time, were Mid Century Modern residences. I had such a hard time finding furnishings to work in those homes. I had to go to Atlanta or order online and find vintage when possible. The hardest part was upholstery, even vintage pieces weren’t easy to find and then I had to get the reupholstered, this led to me finding an upholstery manufacturer who would do fully custom pieces, private labeled. I was selling those pieces to my clients, but they always wanted a place to see examples and so I quickly realized I needed a showroom space.

I was in Landrum with a friend of mine and went into the Landrum Antiques and Furniture store, I loved the feeling of the space, and location and asked if there might be a space available in their store. Kim Karaman is the owner and she carried antiques, as well as, new case goods. She had tried upholstery, but was open to the idea of a joint venture for her hardlines (wood furniture) and my softlines (upholstery, bedding, rugs). We took the name of my upholstery line and {fresh} decor was created. We decided that we wanted to focus on green, sustainable, reclaimed, responsibly sourced, local and organic home furnishings. We love the idea that we are being earth conscious with the products we sell, and creating beautiful spaces for our clients at the same time.”

Greenville Interior Decorator
We began this journey with the help of three interior design interns, two from WCU and one from Converse. They worked tirelessly on the upfit and set up of the store and then continued with us, assisting with customers and projects. The two students from Western Carolina University were Hope Thurlby and Keegan Thurlby (yep, twins!!!). They returned to WCU for their senior year of college and will be graduating in the Spring. The student from Converse is Kaitlyn Brown and because she is local, she continues to have a role on our staff.

Having interns as part of our staff will continue to be a big part of our business model. Fresh new minds and bright ideas are refreshing to us and, we believe that we have a great dynamic environment for them as well.
